Wednesday, 6/3 Assignments

Readworks:  "Meet the Microbes"    "Attack of the Nerves".  Science and personal help readings today!

Math:  Answers to Mid-Chapter Checkpoint (pages 277-278)    1) common multiple   2) common denominator   3) 1 1/2   4) 3   5) 4   6) 54 and 9/54, 6/54
7) 40 and 15/40, 12/40   8) 36, 36, 4/36, 15/36   9) 2X2X2X2X3   10) 2X3X3   11) 2X3X5   12) 4/9   13 24/35   14) 9/20   15) 1/4   16) 1/8   17) 19/24 gallon

Today's math:  Go over and do pages 279 and 280.  After you have gotten it, do pages 281 and 282.  Trick for mixed fractions.  After you find the lowest common denominator in the mixed fraction, multiply the denominator times the whole number and add the numerator.  Example - 2 1/4 would be 4 x 2 = 8 plus 1 = 9, so you would end up with 9/4.  Then do the same with the other mixed fraction and perform the math operation (+. -, x, or divide).  Give it a try after you see mrmathblog or Khan Academy.

Assignment

Hi Guys,
In Readworks today we are reading three selections.  They are "Squeak the Skater Goes Surfing", "The Constitution Tells the States Who Votes" , and "Native American Homes".  Those readings should give you a little variety, again.  We want you to  be well rounded in your education.  In Math4Children, you are going to do problems in multiplication.  It will start out fairly easy and get a little harder.  There are four pages this time.  Do Multiplication , pages 6, 7, 11, and 14.  If you know your multiplication tables, this shouldn't take you too long.
As always, keep up on your other things and keep writing in your journals.  I will try to figure out a way to look at some of your writings this week.  Stay safe and busy.
Yours in Dragon Pride,
Mr. Bailey

Assignment

Hi Guys,
Halfway through another week and the sun is finally shining.  A beautiful day for being out in your yard for some fresh air.  But, before or after that, here is your work for Wednesday 4/15/  It is due on the 17th.  In Readworks, the selections are:  "Standing on the Roof of Africa", "Civil Rights on a City Bus", and "The Mermaid of Kona, Hawaii".  You should look up Rosa Parks and find out more about her and her role in the Civil Rights Movement in the 60's.   In math:  do Multiplication 15 and the Multiplicaton Matching Exercise.  All of this should take you about two hours, more or less.
I found out that you can get your work from your cell phone.  I heard that Jesus and his family have done that, at times.  Make sure you and your parental units read the post from Tuesday about registration for next year.  We need that information as soon as possible.  And, finally, I see that more of you are doing the work.  That is great and I am proud of you.  Some of you have not done any Readworks for days, after starting strong.  Don't fall behind.  Remember, I am monitoring Readworks, Moby Max, and Renaissance.  A couple of you are e-mailing me your math by taking a picture of your work and sending it.  If you can do that, I would love to see it.
I do miss you guys during this time apart.  We may be doing packets as early as next week if all goes well.  I will be at the lunch giveaways on Friday (4/17) and Monday (4/20) from 11 until 2.  Come by and get a free lunch and breakfast for the next day.
Yours in Dragon Pride,
Mr. Bailey

Assignment

Hi Guys,
Here are your assignments for today and will be due on Monday.  On Readworks, read "Matter is Everywhere", "Opening Day", and "Mostly Only White Men Could Voted Before 1870".  You get some science, reading and sports, and history from these selections.  In math, Subtraction Hori 4 and Subtract One from Two Digit Exercises.  On the horizontal worksheet, I would rewrite the problems vertically to make it easier.
As always, keep up on your journals and your Moby Max and Renaissance work when you have time (and YOU SHOULD HAVE PLENTY OF TIME)!!  Stay safe and keep busy.  Keeping busy will make the time pass more quickly.  I will be handing out food on Monday, April 13.  Come by and mask up to be safe while you are out.
I miss you guys.
Yours in Dragon Pride,
Mr. Bailey

Due:

Assignment

Hi Guys,
Hopefully all of you have been able to get to the Readworks site and have finished the first two readings.  Sorry about the mix up.  Go to Readworks today (4/8) and read the selection "Me and My Habits" and the selection "Keep Looking".  When you read "Keep Looking" try to picture the settings by the way the author describes them in words.  See how words and descriptive vocabulary can help better make a story more vivid for you.
In Math, go to the math4children site again.  Do Addition of four place numbers, Addition 16, and Addition of money USD.  Let's see if you remember a little about decimals.  Watch where you place your decimal points!!
Keep up on you JOURNALS.  Yes, I still want you doing your journals.  And, keep working on Moby Max, Renaissance, and our other sites we use in the computer lab.  And, most of all, stay safe and treat everyone in your household with care and respect.  I miss you guys.
Yours in Dragon Pride,
Mr. Bailey
P.S. If you did not see the notification, lunch giveaways have been postponed until April 13.  I will be there on that Monday.  No definite word on packets, yet.  I'll let you know if, or when, that happens.

Assignment

Hi Guys,
Welcome back to school. :-)  I hope you are all well and that your families are also safe and healthy. Here are your reading and math assignments for the next two days.  Keep the information about websites, usernames, and passwords, as you will be using these for the next few weeks.  Remember to e-mail me if you have any questions or concerns.
Reading:  Go to the Readworks website.  It is readworks.org.  Click on Student Login.  Type in the class code:  UWGV7L.  Click on continue.  A list of names will appear.  Click on your name.  The beginning password is 1234.  (Create your own password afterward if you wish.)  You will then see two articles to read.  They are short and simple to start out.  After reading, answer the question set.  I will be able to monitor your work and see how you are doing each week.
Math - Type in math4childrenplus.com/grades/5th-grade/worksheets/.  A page/site will appear with a lot of worksheets.  For today you will go back to the basics.  Complete worksheets for Addition problems, pages 1, 2, and 3.  The answers are provided, but don't look at them until you are completely finished.  Have a sibling or an adult in the house look over your work.  Do not get ahead and do other worksheets, yet.  We'll get there.

Keeping working on Moby Max and Renaissance, too.  I'd do some Typing Club when time permits.  Keep up the keyboard skills.
Remember, I'll be at school on Monday and Friday this week from 11 until 1.  There is a chance that paper packets may be available in the near future.  I'll keep you in the loop on that.  This work won't take you too long, but I will be giving you more in the future.  Have fun doing the work and stay safe.  I miss you guys.
 Yours in Dragon Pride,
Mr. Bailey
P.S.  Mrs. Bailey says hello.

Hi Guys,
I posted this last week but it didn't appear, I guess.  Anyway, go online to NHMLAC.ORG/connects.  We will not be able to go to the Museum of Natural History, but you can visit their website online and see all he great things that are there.  It's not like being there, but it's the next best thing.  If you visit the site, e-mail me and let me know what you think.
Yours in Dragon Pride,
Mr. Bailey
