Wednesday, June 3 Info

Hi Guys,
This will be the last "formal" assignment and post I will send for the regular school year.  I am going to continue to send assignments and posts on Tuesdays and Thursdays until the end of June.  I am hoping you will continue to work due to the fact that we are still behind where we should be.
I will finish posting grades tomorrow (June 4).  That gives one more day for some of you to catch up.  Many of you will be happy to see raised grades because of your work over the last two months.  I am proud of you who kept up on your education.
Today's questions:  On this day, June 3: 1)  In 1935 what sailing vessel set a record for crossing the Atlantic in 4 day?   2) In 1943, what other riots took place in Los Angeles? [yes, there have been other injustices against people of color in the past]   3)  What coin today is up for sale for $15 million?
Last day to get caught up.  I will be staying in touch via these posts on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting next week.  Stay in touch with me, so we can stay ready for school starting in August.  Stay safe and stay busy. Oh, I will be at the school on Thursday, this week for a short time from 10:30 until a little after 11.  Come by if you want and get a lunch.

Mr. Bailey

Monday, June 1 Info

Hi Guys,
It's the last week of formal school.  I am giving you your usual Monday work, and I will give you one last formal assignment on Wednesday.  That will give some of you who have procrastinated a chance to raise your grades.  About half of the class will get higher grades than your second trimester marks.  The rest will not change.  I don't want to sound mean, but if I was allowed to, I would lower the grades of many of you who have been lazy and done little or nothing over the past two months.  And that includes a few of our supposed "top students".  I'm going to do one more grading check on Tuesday to see if anyone has improved.  After that, I have to send my grades to the school to be recorded and report cards made for distribution.
Today's questions:  On June 1:  1) In 1916, who was the first Jewish American to be appointed to the U. S. Supreme Court?   2)  In 1980 what news network made its debut?  3)  How long did it take the Space X Dragon capsule to reach the International Space Station?  E-mail me your answers.  Stay safe and stay busy.
Yours in Dragon Pride,
Mr. Bailey

Last Friday of the School Year Info

Hi Guys,
Well, we've reached the last Friday of the school year.  I'm sure you all will truly remember how unusual this last two and half months has been for you and your families.  I will be turning in (online grading) your final grades on Monday, June 1.  I am giving some of you the chance to finish some more work to raise your grades.  Try to get caught up this weekend if you can.
As I posted earlier, have your parents or guardians fill out the survey on the ASA web page.  It will help us decide how we will conduct classes next school year.  Also, let the school know if you will be returning.  I have been told that over 200 students have already applied to return.  Enroll now to save your spot in August.  Stay safe and stay busy.
Today's questions:  On this day, May 29:  1) In 1943, Norman Rockwell's portrait of a famous female worker was published.  Who was the female worker?  2) In 19453, what did Edmund Hillary and Tensing Norgay accomplish for the first time?  3) In 1973 what did Tom Bradley, of Los Angeles, become the first?  E-mail me your answers.
Yours in Dragon Pride,
Mr. Bailey

Wednesday Information

Hi Guys,
Well, one more week left in "formal" school.  I say formal, because I will try to give you a couple more weeks after June 4.  I have been doing some of your grades and many of you got higher marks over the last trimester.  But, unfortunately, some of you did not improve at all because you did little or nothing since March.  I am proud of the "doers" and I am worried about how far behind the "non-doers" are going to be.
If you look on the ASA Web Page, you will see a survey for your parents.  This is to give them the opportunity to be a part of the decision making process as to how school may open in August.  Please, urge them to fill out that survey.
Today's questions:  On this day, May 27:  1)  In 1933, what event began in Chicago?  Hint: Walt Disney's "Three Little Pigs" animated short was shown for the first time.  2)  In 1995 what actor who portrayed Superman in movies, was paralyzed after a horse riding accident?  3) What former Secretary of State is 97 years old today?
Stay safe and stay busy.  I will talk (post) to you soon.
Yours in Dragon Pride,
Keith Bailey

Friday Infomation

Hi Guys,
Happy Friday and Memorial Day Weekend.  We are getting close to the end of the regular school year.  I will try to continue to give you a couple of assignments each week to keep up (or catch up) on things during the early weeks of summer.  You all need this to at least make up for what we've missed over the last two months.
The grade portal is open for me to input your final grades.  Many of you will not be happy, because your grades will be average, at best.  Many of you will be happy with your grades if you have been getting your work done.  I will put the grades in next weekend (May 30).  That should give some of you the opportunity to get caught up.
Today's questions:  On this day May 22,  1) In 1915, what California peak erupted?   2) Who had his final show on T.V. in 1992, after 30 years?  3) What ex-Dodger pitcher (who has a surgery named after him) is 77 years old today?  E-mail me your answers.  I want to hear from you!!!
Remember to get registered.  We already have nearly 200 students that have signed up to return.  Spots are going fast.  Oh, no Grab and Go lunches on Monday due to the holiday.  Stay safe and stay busy.
Yours in Dragon Pride,
Mr. Bailey

I hope you are all is well with you and your families as we start to see things opening up a little.  I enjoyed seeing some of you on Monday at food giveaway.  It reminds me of how much I miss you guys.
Today's work is posted on my other assignment page.  I'll be giving grades in a little less than two weeks.  You have time to catch up it you are behind.  I will not give any work this coming Monday due to the holiday.
School will be closed on Friday's from now on, so no one will be there, including Grab and Go lunch.  Remind your parents to sign you up for next year at ASA.  You can do that online at the school website.  It looks like we will be starting in August, for sure.  Discussions are underway as to how we will be operating.  Stay safe and stay busy.
Oh, I almost forgot!  Here are your research questions for today.  On this day (May 20):

Another Monday at Home

Happy Monday.  I hope you all read my weekend post concerning your grades.  And, I hope it lights a fire in you to get going or to keep going strong.  Here are your Monday questions to research:  on this day, May 18, 1) What passed by the earth in 1910, returned in the 80's and will come again in your lifetime?   2) Jacqueline Cochran become the first woman to do this in 1953?  3)  What former Oakland A, California Angel and New York Yankee baseball player is 74 today?  Mystery Science is having an online live presentation on May 21 at 10 a.m.  You might want to check it out.  And, they are still doing regular new presentations each week or so.
You'll find your assignments on my other assignment page.  It looks like a cloudy, cool day.  Just the kind of day to stay in and read and do some work to improve your mind.
Reminder to parents:  Register your students for ASA school next year at the school website.  Spots are going fast!  Oh, and if you are near the Orange Show on Mill and E Streets, check out our really cool announcement on the jumbotron screen.

Mr. Bailey

Reading Grades as of May 15

Hi Guys,
As promised, here are you results for Readworks from Apsril 6 to May 15.  There were 46 assigned readings.  Most of you did pretty well on the comprehension quizzes at the end.  I am giving you a grade on how may readings you have done and your scores.  So, with that in mind, if I had to give you a grade today, it woud be:
Carter - A, Chris - C, Leticia - D, Atticus - A, Jesus - D-, Kamaria - A, Aaron - F, Armando - C+, Charlotte - D+, Andrew - C+, LIzzy - A, Lestat - D-, Laker - A, Aidan - A, Jade - D, Jayci - B-.  The rest of the class all have an F for doing absolutely nothing!!!
I know many of you have been on the other sites (Renaissance, Moby Max, etc.).  That's okay, but I want to see how you do on varied subject matter.  As far as math is concerned, I can only see what some of you e-mail me.  The formal school year ends June 4, so you have until  about June 1 to get caught up.  I will try to keep giving you work during the first part of the summer  Those of you who have done little or nothing are falling behind your fellow classmates at ASA and all over California.  School will start again sometime in August, I'm guessing.  Will you be ready to excel or fall way behind??  I want Mr. Bailey's Fifth Grade Scholars to try and excel.  Stay safe and stay busy (or get busy).
Yours in Dragon Pride,
Mr. Bailey

If you have not registered to go to ASA next school year (2020-21), please do so online at the school website.  Or, if nothing else, e-mail me and let me know today or tomorrow.  We already have many students that have done this.  Make sure you reserve your spot.

Another Monday at Home

Hi Guys,
I hope you had a good weekend and that you safely got out a little, because things opened up.  It's still a good idea to wear a mask and stay in unless it's necessary.
Your assignments are on my other page, but here are you questions for today:  1) On this day in 1947, a company announced the development of a revolutionary invention for automobiles.  What was the invention and what was the company?  2) In 1981, what legendary singer died in Miami at the young age of 36?  3) Easy one = What's the biggest news to come out of the White House, this morning, in Washington D. C.?  As always, e-mail me your answers.
I'm going to only give math work from Go Math Books this week.  So, if you haven't come to pick your's up, you can't do it.  Good luck with all work today.

Mr. Bailey

Mothers' Day Note

Hi Guys,
I know this isn't Monday, and I'm not going to give you an early assignment.  Instead, this unexpected post has two purposes.  First, the negative part:  You are starting to slack off on your work again.  Some of you have not been continuing to keep up on your Readworks (I am monitoring that).   Some of you have been doing less Renaissance and Moby Max, as well.   Plus, you are not e-mailing me your answers to my questions.  QUIT BEING SLACKERS!!!  I STILL HAVE TO GIVE YOU GRADES AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR!!!
Now, on a positive, it is Mothers' Day.  You all make sure you give your moms a big hug and do something special for them.  You are here because of they had you.  Make them feel special.
Yours in Dragon Pride,
Mr. Bailey

Another Friday at Home :-(

Hi Guys,
Well, another Friday when we aren't together.  I miss you all and I'll let you know that not teaching is affecting my health.  I am gaining weight not chasing you guys all over the school every day!! (Ha!Ha!).  It has been great talking to and seeing many of you when you picked up your things.
Your assignments for the next two days is on the page where I give them.  I still want you to try my questions.  The students that are doing that are researching well and I love that.  E-mail the answers.  I want to hear from all of you!  On this day (5/8):  1) In 1541 what river did Hernando de Soto discover?  2) In 1846 a battle took place in Palo Alto, Texas that began what war?  3) What famous British naturalist has his 92nd birthday?
Good Luck.  Stay safe and stay busy.
Yours in Dragon Pride,
Mr. Bailey

Another Wonderful Wednesday

Hi Guys,
How about a little ASA purple color for my post today?  We start Go Math today, so those of you who have not been to the school to get your things are out of luck until you do.  I'm going to assign Readers' Notebook things this weekend.  If you don't have it...like I said, out of luck.
On another note, here are your questions to research today.  Send me an e-mail with the answers.  On this day (May 6):  1) In 1937 what famous catastrophe took place in Lakehurst, New Jersey, killing 35 people? 2) In 1941 what did Bob Hope do and where?  3) What "Say Hey Kid" S. F. Giant has his 89th birthday today?
Have a great day and stay safe and busy.
Yours in Dragon Pride,
Mr. Bailey

Where are your answers??

Hi Guys,
I can tell you aren't reading my posts.  You are going straight to the assignments and missing my messages to you.  How do I know?  Only two people answered my questions.  Thank you Aidan and Jade!!  Come on guys, communicate with me!  It isn't that hard!  Stay safe and stay busy.
Yours in Dragon Pride,
Mr. Bailey
